These visual journals have been really eye opening. I hadn’t realized how much stuff goes on from day to day. It’s not that I thought my life was boring but I kinda figured I was much more a slave to routine. Perhaps this has just been a particularly eventful few weeks but I’m not so sure.
Frankie meets Nashira.
I’ve gotten into a pretty bad habit of spraining my ankle this past year. This one was bad enough to cause some mild swelling and bit of a limp. I elevated, iced, and rested the ankle as much as I could before race day. And of course, as an extra precaution, I told no one.
The photo below is on Hunter Loop. Laughing Horse is similar except all that exposed dirt is replaced with rocks and the space between each of those rocks is crammed with more rocks.
I needed some time to recover after the race so Sunday was a no pants day. We ate pizza for breakfast and tacos for dinner. Football games were on the TV from 7am till late into the evening. Frankie and I finished a puzzle and Remus and I caught up on the Digital Circus together.
So yeah. I was fully prepared to be on waiting room duty but they called me in. After a bit there wasn’t much else to do but pull out the sketch book and capture what I could.

My cats do not cuddle. They are, at best, reluctant roommates. JB, the gray one, carefully writes her name and the date in flawless script on leftovers in the fridge with accompanying notes of increasing length and earnestness requesting that certain unnamed individuals please refrain from finishing off that which does not belong to them. Squid, the orange one, cannot read.

Everytime I find myself on Laughing Horse I’m tempted to take a picture but they really never do it justice.
You are instructed to bare you teeth like that as they greet you. The wolves at the sanctuary are often surrendered animals that were adopted as pets until the owners decided keeping an actual wolf as a pet isn’t really a great idea.
I couldn’t resist taking a crack at it myself so put together a c-side which you can also listen to on Spotify.
For the record we all wore pants. That’s just what we call those sorts of days around here.

Helped my friend butcher a roadkill deer.
It was heartbreaking to see such a beautiful animal’s life end this way
Parks & Wildlife called up my buddy yesterday. He’s on a secret roadkill call list. A deer had been hit on the edge of town. I helped him butcher it last night. It’s heartbreaking to see such a beautiful animal killed like that but at least it wasn’t a total waste.
Words are hard and some things are best left unsaid.
"Ignore your problems and suppress your feelings" is a great takeaway from this! :D Oh and great wolf picture. Scary!
