I recall hearing it’s because tape production is much less costly than cd or vinyl and doesn’t have a minimum order. So they make these to have something physical along with a download code.
Love that - buying a download code has always been a tough sell for me, especially when I can just as easily stream it. More ways to directly support artists is never a bad thing.
There are quite a few artists that are still releasing cassettes. I went to a hardcore show recently where that's all they had to purchase. I'm glad you are embracing it even if it's a difficult journey, but that makes it all the sweeter when it works, right?
I've definitely seen a few artists selling tapes - not sure if it's becoming more of a thing or I'm just noticing it now that I've been looking. Probably the latter.
The effort involved does seem to correlate to the level enjoyment. The new tape deck already has a story worlds better than "I downloaded Spotify".
