I know right? Def a struggle to show up consistently - fortunately I find once I do manage to sit down at the chair, work seems to emerge. If only I could remember that when literally anything else sounds more enticing!
I noticed that when I did daily comics every day for a while, I found a flow and it was hard to stop. But the soon as I bring it back to a anything less than daily, I have a really hard time getting anything out of my hands.
Oh wow, I did a drawing a day on instagram for a year and it destroyed my love of drawing completely. That might have more to do with instagram than drawing everyday but I guess in the end I have to keep it balanced. Which incidentally is also the hardest think in the history of universe 🙃
The sharing part is what ruined it for me in the end. It's really hard to stay curious and try things when you know people will see it. Let alone having to please the almighty Instagram algorithms. I really wish I could balance this, because daily was just too time consuming.
So important to keep the channels open! I feel like you have to build a level of trust with the muse - prove you'll be there so it's efforts aren't wasted. Reminds me of a story I heard about Tom Waits - he was driving in heavy traffic on the 405 when the muse struck with a great song and he just looked up and shouted "Do you mind? Can't you see I'm driving here?" When he got home, he wrote down the tune.
Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks for showing up - I've enjoyed your dispatches.
OH I love this! Yes, just showing up is key, but why is it SO hard?!
