Here's one for the "things that make me go hmmm" file. Yesterday I found the Auster/Karasik/Mazzucchelli book in a Little Free Library. I started reading it last night & this morning I read this post
That's pretty wild given the content of the book. You never know what's real and what isn't. I've been meaning to read the original non-comic version - I bet it's a trip.
Wow Mark I'm blown away by this! I love everything you've done. That poor overworked (and probably underpaid) chicken. Thanks for giving it a second life. Happy to provide a kick in the pants.
Also... making a collaborative comic like this would be really fun/challenging. Passing it back and forth, adding onto the story... Like very slow improv.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a challenge adapting to a completely different style and interesting to see how the extremely precise and graphic nature of the original translates to free hand brushwork.
Collab comics are a ton of fun - I've done some in the very distant past. Your move?
Yes I really loved seeing my lines drawn by you over and over again. It brought a ton of personality. And the red? Perfect choice.
Let me think about the collab. I would love to do it, maybe just not right now (re: newborn). I've never done anything like that before. Is there a way to set it up that has worked for you?
No pressure at all on the collab. Consider it an open invitation.
As far as setup - if there's any thought of ever printing it, it's good to agree on dimensions at the start. Maybe set some expectations like you get a week or a month to finish a turn (or no limit at all) and perhaps be on the same page thematically.
We kept a series of notebooks going in high school that went on for years, basically a cartoon role play. No pressure - just fun.

Okay cool. Let me sit on it for a minute. I like the idea of setting up some structure/restraints/dimensions and seeing what happens.
Looks great. Digging the style.
Thanks! It was a fun experiment.
